In 2015, Jodie was nominated for the prestigious Brother Thomas Fellowship through the Boston Foundation and in 2018 and 2019 Jodie was honored by The City of Boston as a Fay Chandler Emerging Artist. In 2019, she will participate in an artist residency in Epsom, New Hampshire as awarded through Getaway.
Visually described as stripped-down graphic environments, Jodie's paintings reference a nostalgic depiction seen in vintage travel magazines. At first glance, they are a mass of simple building blocks, yet they bring the urban setting alive with exotic color; they are loud, yet poetically calm; familiar, yet simultaneously part of an altered memory. The complexity of the city provides spontaneity in Jodie's work, allowing her to create a portal to a re-imagined place. She is inspired by artist Edward Hopper.
Jodie grew up in Buffalo, NY and studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Industrial Design. She received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Boston, and a Masters of Science in Art Administration from Boston University. Her inspiration to become an artist is due to her father, a retired photographer and art teacher. When she is not painting, you can find her searching for decent Buffalo wings here in Boston or spending time with her husband, Paul, and dog, Doc. For more information visit JodieBaehre.com
