Location: North Bend, WA
One of the compelling reasons that led me to relocate to Washington State was its rich tapestry of wildlife. Until recently, however, this elusive allure had remained just beyond my lens's reach.
While making art from the breathtaking landscapes, I met fellow photographers who told me about a local elk herd near my newfound home. Intrigued by the idea, I embarked on a quest to locate these majestic creatures.
One evening, I found myself in the remarkable company of the herd. My attention went to a young buck. This charismatic creature generously graced me with its presence, becoming my muse and subject throughout our shared journey. In this encounter, I discovered the true essence of the Pacific Northwest, where nature's splendor effortlessly weaves itself into the tapestry of our lives.
Santos "Sanzei" López is a fine art photographer for whom the camera is the culmination of a lifelong visual journey. His artistic practice was ignited in childhood with a simple 35mm film camera, a gift from his mother, who became his first subject and instilled in him the belief that photography could capture profound joy and connection.
This foundation evolved through decades of work as a graphic artist and graffiti writer, disciplines that permanently shaped his eye for composition, bold geometry, and layered texture. In 2015, he made a definitive commitment to photography, channeling this multidisciplinary vision into a focused pursuit of the definitive image.
Sanzei’s work transforms the contrasting landscapes of South Florida’s coasts and the Pacific Northwest into contemplative art.
