Piece description from the artist
This is an image of what I believe is Polytrichum commune, a type of common moss found in many humid forests. I saw this while hiking Mount Watatic on the New Hampshire/Massachusetts state line. The way the light was illuminating part of the moss bed as if revealing a secret world is what drew me in to take the photo.
I'm a fine art photographer and filmmaker living in the Boston area. I grew up here in Massachusetts always playing outside as a young child. Nature and the beauty of New England's landscapes continues to be the inspiration for my work. I was formally trained in painting and photography at Skidmore College graduating with a Bachelors Degree as a Fine Arts major in 2008. My very first photography class was through my Paris abroad program with Skidmore. I first learned how to take photos with a manual film camera. We developed and printed our own photos in the darkroom. I believe starting out this way helped me to be a better photographer. Now I've gone digital but I still always shoot in manual mode so that I have the most control possible over how my photographs come out.
