Piece description from the artist
I took this photograph the morning my nephew was born. I was up all night at Lowell General photographing his birth. In the morning around 6:30 or 7am I was driving on back roads to get home during rush hour. I passed over the Concord River Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge in North Billerica when I saw this view. Despite the near freezing cold and lack of a sidewalk I pulled over in a parking spot and carefully trotted alongside the busy road to the bridge. This is a shot I never could have planned. It will always remind me of my first nephew, Jackson.
I'm a fine art photographer and filmmaker living in the Boston area. I grew up here in Massachusetts always playing outside as a young child. Nature and the beauty of New England's landscapes continues to be the inspiration for my work. I was formally trained in painting and photography at Skidmore College graduating with a Bachelors Degree as a Fine Arts major in 2008. My very first photography class was through my Paris abroad program with Skidmore. I first learned how to take photos with a manual film camera. We developed and printed our own photos in the darkroom. I believe starting out this way helped me to be a better photographer. Now I've gone digital but I still always shoot in manual mode so that I have the most control possible over how my photographs come out.
