Tal Wooten Bridge and Jolly Mill

Piece description from the artist

This photograph captures a quiet Ozarks scene featuring the small wooden covered Tal Wooten Bridge, with the historic Jolly Mill standing just beyond it in Pierce City, Missouri. The bridge spans a natural spring, adding to the peaceful charm of this beautiful fall afternoon as warm autumn colors surround the landscape.

Built in 1848, Jolly Mill is a remarkable example of early Ozarks craftsmanship and resilience. The mill survived the Civil War, even after the surrounding town was burned, and remains a powerful symbol of Missouri’s frontier history. Though not visible in this image, Capps Creek flows just behind the mill, continuing to shape the land as it has for generations.

Today, the mill and surrounding park have been carefully restored to preserve their rich heritage. Period buildings relocated from other sites recreate the original town of Jollification, Missouri, allowing visitors to step back in time. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this cherished landmark remains a favorite destination for Ozark history, seasonal beauty, and the timeless atmosphere of a Missouri fall.
