Sylvan Lake Boat Dock Sunrise Selective Color

A beautiful sunrise creates a sunburst over the granite formations surrounding Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park, South Dakota. In this selective color view, the black and white boat dock lined with colorful canoes and kayaks adding a fun touch of color along the peaceful shoreline with the rest of the landscape in grayscale.

What made this morning especially memorable was the unexpected snow left behind by a spring storm the day before. Even though it was late May, patches of fresh snow still clung to the granite rocks and hillsides, creating a beautiful contrast against the gray stone and warm morning light.

I had worried the snow might interfere with our plans, but instead it became one of the highlights of the trip. Seeing snow surrounding the lake while photographing this incredible sunrise was an experience I won't soon forget.

Often called the crown jewel of the Black Hills, Sylvan Lake is known for its dramatic granite formations, clear water, hiking trails, and beautiful scenery.
