Piece description from the artist
This photograph features a unique view of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on Mount Rushmore National Memorial, framed by the evergreen pines of the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota. Viewing the monument from the Presidential Trail offers a fresh perspective that many visitors miss, with the surrounding forest emphasizing the majestic scale of the granite carvings and the natural wooded setting.
George Washington, the nation's first president, and Abraham Lincoln, who led the country through one of its most challenging periods, represent two pivotal chapters in American history. Their carefully sculpted faces stand high above the rugged mountainside, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship required to carve such lifelike details into solid granite.
I captured this morning scene during our 2026 visit, when the sunlight illuminated the monument against a blue sky. The surrounding pine trees naturally frame the sculpture, creating a composition that highlights both the grandeur of Mount Rushmore and the scenic beauty of South Dakota's Black Hills.
