Piece description from the artist
I captured this expansive view black and white photo of the Black Hills from an overlook along the scenic Iron Mountain Road (U.S. Highway 16A) in Custer State Park, South Dakota, USA. Layers of forest covered mountains and rolling hills create a landscape that goes on for miles. As the sunlight filtered through the clouds, patches of light and shadows drift across the hillsides, adding depth and dimension to the already breathtaking scenery.
The mostly cloudy sky brought even more character to the view, with large, dramatic clouds contrasting beautifully against the blue sky. Pine and spruce trees in the foreground naturally frame the scene, adding rich green tones and drawing the eye toward the expansive vista beyond.
I enjoyed stopping at the overlooks along Iron Mountain Road because each one offers a different perspective of the Black Hills. Standing here and watching the changing light dance across the mountains was a reminder of just how beautiful and peaceful this part of South Dakota can be.
