Flume to Topaz Mill

Piece description from the artist

This photograph captures a view looking down the old wooden flume leading to Topaz Mill in Cabool, Missouri, USA, showcasing the rustic charm of this Ozarks landmark on a crisp autumn evening. The setting sun filters through the trees, creating a radiant sun star that adds warmth to the scene while backlighting the branches and trees. At the time this photograph was taken, the trough was blocked, leaving the channel dry and weathered with age, however you can see a waterfall flowing below it. Built in 1895, Topaz Mill once harnessed the steady flow of Topaz Spring, which still produces 8–10 million gallons of clear water each day. Though no longer in use, the mill and its flume remain a treasured piece of Missouri history and one of the region’s most scenic destinations.
