I captured this wide view of Mount Rushmore National Memorial from one of the scenic overlooks along Iron Mountain Road near Keystone, South Dakota. High above the lush pine forests of the Black Hills, the iconic granite carvings stand out beneath a dramatic partly cloudy sky.
Iron Mountain Road (U.S. Highway 16A), which winds through Custer State Park, is one of the most scenic drives in the Black Hills. This unforgettable 17-mile route features 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, three one-lane granite tunnels, the famous three wooden pigtail bridges, and several spectacular viewpoints that perfectly frame Mount Rushmore in the distance.
