This black and white photograph was taken from the center of Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores, Alabama, looking south toward the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico on a peaceful summer evening. With the sun beginning to set behind me, the soft evening light casts gentle soft tones across the sky while lighter shades drift through the soft clouds near the horizon, creating a calm and inviting coastal scene.
I captured this in June 2025 on the newly restored pier, which reopened in September 2024 after undergoing extensive repairs from damage caused by Hurricane Sally in 2020. Stretching far into the Gulf, the pier once again offers visitors breathtaking views, excellent fishing opportunities, and one of the best places along Alabama's Gulf Coast to enjoy the beauty of the shoreline and the peaceful rhythm of the waves.
