Piece description from the artist
I had been wanting to hike Mount Major in New Hampshire for a second time for a few years now. The first time didn't go so well. I injured my knee on the way down and as a result was not able to hike, do yoga or really anything that put pressure on my knee for more than a year. I saw a knee specialist, had an MRI, went to PT, etc. and nothing helped. Then finally I tried myofascial release and healed my knee injury. For years I kept thinking about going back and rewriting my story. This year I finally did. The views from up top were amazing and I had no problems hiking. It was a very empowering experience for me to go back and change history for myself.
I'm a fine art photographer and filmmaker living in the Boston area. I grew up here in Massachusetts always playing outside as a young child. Nature and the beauty of New England's landscapes continues to be the inspiration for my work. I was formally trained in painting and photography at Skidmore College graduating with a Bachelors Degree as a Fine Arts major in 2008. My very first photography class was through my Paris abroad program with Skidmore. I first learned how to take photos with a manual film camera. We developed and printed our own photos in the darkroom. I believe starting out this way helped me to be a better photographer. Now I've gone digital but I still always shoot in manual mode so that I have the most control possible over how my photographs come out.
