Curious Calf And Itchy Bison Mom

Piece description from the artist

One of the highlights of out visit to Badlands National Park was watching several adorable American bison calves roaming the prairie with their mothers. In this photograph, a curious young bull calf looks directly toward me while his mother stands behind him, using her hind leg to scratch an itch on her face. It was one of those candid wildlife moments that made me stop and smile.

I captured this scene in the open grasslands of Badlands National Park in South Dakota, with the park's rugged rock formations blurred in the background. The natural setting keeps the focus on the Buffalo pair while still showcasing the unique landscape that makes the Badlands so recognizable.

Spring is one of the best times to visit the park if you hope to see bison calves. Most are born from late April through May, and watching these young calves stay close to their mothers while exploring their new world is an unforgettable experience for any wildlife lover.
