Antelope House Canyon de Chelly Arizona

Piece description from the artist

A detailed zoomed-in view of Antelope House from the North Rim overlook in Canyon de Chelly National Monument highlights the impressive stonework of this ancient cliff dwelling near Chinle, Arizona. Built by the Ancestral Puebloans during the 12th and 13th centuries, these structures feature multi-room living spaces and were carefully positioned beneath the canyon walls for protection and shade. This historic site offers a powerful glimpse into early Native American architecture and the daily life of the people who once called this canyon home.

Named for the faint antelope pictographs painted on the cliff above, It stands as one of the best-preserved examples of early Native American architecture. These dwellings were once home to farming communities who cultivated crops, held ceremonies in kivas, and thrived within the canyon’s natural shelter, leaving behind a lasting legacy etched into the landscape.
