A bend in the river delta is filled with summer’s ease and sunshine, as lazy and full as the summer sunshine. This piece has always reminded me of Huckleberry Finn. It’s a good book! And this river delta is full of islands and watery dead ends—perfect for exploring on a hot summer day when relief from the heat is always a quick dip away.
Doug Flückiger’s graphite landscapes elevate black and white to the realm of the sublime. Working entirely by hand, he renders the American West with architectural precision and meditative grace. His large-scale drawings—some spanning eight feet—merge design discipline with the poetry of wilderness.
