Piece description from the artist
Pianissimo—Italian for “very soft”—takes its name from the quietest dynamic marking in music, often found in contemplative, lyrical piano compositions. This drawing was inspired by a fog-laden late-winter morning above a still cove, where clouds slowly lifted from the water and drifted into the trees. The subdued tonal range and gentle transitions echo the softness suggested by the title. A mirrored reflection was introduced to create balance and visual calm, reinforcing the sense of stillness. The result is a restrained, atmospheric work that invites pause and reflection, well suited to serene commercial spaces seeking quiet sophistication and emotional depth.
Doug Flückiger’s graphite landscapes elevate black and white to the realm of the sublime. Working entirely by hand, he renders the American West with architectural precision and meditative grace. His large-scale drawings—some spanning eight feet—merge design discipline with the poetry of wilderness. A graduate of ArtCenter College of Design, Flückiger creates works collected for their patience, mastery, and timeless stillness.
