Wanderers on the lake mist

Wanderers on the Lake Mist

Piece description from the artist

The sundial is a poignant symbol for both mundane earthy pursuits (What time is it?) and reverence for the cosmos because the reading requires our Sun.

I’ve come to recognize that we are all intrinsically part of nature. Does that mean that your city girl here is going to sleep in a tent? Absolutely not; I’m no Survivorman, I have a medical condition that requires cell service just in case, and I’m high maintenance. No joke! We don’t have to leave the city to BE Nature, but I do want to connect more with other natural things, so I made this painting depicting wanderers who are prepared with their contraptions, working together, tiptoeing onto a misty lake beach. The second wanderer is the viewer, invited to pick up the contraption and follow me onto the beach.

Although I love his painting, I always thought Casper David Friedrich’s adventurer in “Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog,” seemed a little too cocky. Those rocks look really slippery. Nature is awe inspiring, but it can also be dangerous… and slippery. Just like us!
