Piece description from the artist

The Very Large Array (VLA) radio astronomy observatory is a component of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and is located in Central New Mexico west of Socorro. Astronomers around the world use radio telescopes to observe the naturally occurring radiowaves that come from stars, planets, galaxies, clouds of dust, and molecules of gas.

About Randall Roberts

Rio Rancho, NM

After a career as a photographer and visuals editor in newspapers, I decided to focus on documenting the natural world. I hope my images can not only bring others joy but also create a better understanding of the beauty and life around us.
During my career, my photos have been published in regional and national magazines including National Geographic Traveler, U.S. News & World Report, New Mexico Magazine, Popular Science, and Albuquerque Monthly; and in books and calendars by National Geographic Books, Falcon Press, Rio Nuevo Press, Sierra Press, Landmark, Sierra Club and others.
