Sunburst Over Spring Creek Canyon

I captured this vertical photograph as the clear, cold spring-fed water of Kanarra Creek flows through a narrow slot canyon section of Spring Creek Canyon along the hiking trail to Kanarra Falls in Kanarraville, Utah, USA. We were hiking through the chilly 36-degree water. I was able to get a glowing sunburst just above the edge of the red rock canyon walls. The warm afternoon sunlight illuminated the sandstone, creating a golden glow that contrasted with the darker parts of the canyon.

Just a short distance farther through the canyon, there is the spectacular Kanarra Falls waterfall, one of the highlights of this scenic southern Utah adventure. The approximately 4 mile roundtrip hike follows the spring fed creek for much of the journey, so even during the summer months, the water remains surprisingly cold. The trail can also be challenging in places, requiring hikers to navigate through the water and climb over large boulders, particularly beyond the main waterfall. For photographers and outdoor enthusiasts, the combination of flowing water, narrow canyon walls, colorful sandstone, and dramatic sunlight makes the Kanarra Falls Trail a memorable experience.
