Dusk mutes the colors of the dunes in California's Imperial Dune Field. Each dune seemed to emit a faint pastel glow just before it got too dark to photograph. Shot with a telephoto lens to compress the different dunes into a more one-dimensional image.
For the first four years of his life, before his family decided to make a home in Florida, Montgomery Gilchrist was raised on a sailboat off the coast Central and South America. As an adult, he taught English in Tokyo for two years then subsequently settled in Manhattan. He is a world traveler and maintains a passionate interest in the ways different people live.
