Roughlock Falls South Dakota Viewpoint Vertical

This vertical photograph features the natural beauty of a Roughlock Falls in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where Little Spearfish Creek flows over layers of rugged rock surrounded by moss, trees, and lush vegetation. In the shadowy background, the taller waterfall can be seen descending beside the rocky cliff, while a wooden boardwalk along the side offers visitors a wonderful place to take in the scenery and enjoy the sounds of the flowing water.

I used a long exposure to create a soft, silky effect in the rushing water, highlighting the contrast between the bright cascades and the rich greens and warm golden tones of the surrounding landscape. The vertical composition draws your eyes along the creek toward the main waterfall tucked into the shadows.

This beautiful spot near Lead, South Dakota, is a favorite for landscape photographers, hikers, and nature lovers exploring the scenic Black Hills. Visitors can reach the falls with an easy half-mile walk from the nearby parking area or take a longer two mile round-trip trail that follows the creek through this beautiful wooded setting. This is in South Lawrence near near Lead, SD.
