Piece description from the artist

When this body of work, Altered Perceptions, I challenged myself to photograph my everyday surroundings and then reexamine them with a new frame of mind. My goal was to appreciate my mundane world a little more. This work feature two sides of my former apartment building something I saw everyday but never with much thought. However the life within it extends out into the rest of my world; I came into contact with others that lived in it and was lucky enough to come home everyday to a safe space. I overlapped the two photographs and then folded paper as a way of visually representing how this building made me feel after my reexamination. The resulting image is a little ominous while simultaneously beautiful, a reflection of how I see the building itself and my time living in it.
