Rapids at Big Spring in Mark Twain National Forest, Van Buren, Missouri
Rushing rapids splash around massive rock boulders at Big Spring, located in Van Buren, Missouri, within Mark Twain National Forest. The stunning blue-green color of the water is entirely natural, adding to the spring’s breathtaking beauty. Part of the Ozarks and managed by the U.S. National Park Service, Big Spring flows through giant boulders, creating dramatic, boil-like rapids. On average, an incredible 288 million gallons of water emerge daily, enough to fill the St. Louis baseball stadium in just 33 hours. Recognized as the largest spring in the United States, it’s a remarkable natural wonder worth experiencing.
