Piece description from the artist
Sicily is sometimes referred to as The Island of Persephone. Proserpina, as she's called in Latin and Italian, is an incredibly powerful goddess of both life and death. Her story could not be told without the pomegranate, a symbol of fertility by its most basic nature. Pomegranates overflow with seeds and run red with blood-like juice, of course they're crucial to understanding the cycles of birth and death. Life and renewal from the darkness of the earth is foundational to the dark goddess archetype.
