Piece description from the artist
The faint red-orange lines in this painting form the grid of a tennis court. Where a net would be, there is instead a break between the canvases that make up this artwork. Side-by-side, they read as an open book. Every horizontal line that spans the two canvases is meant to feel like a binding that holds the work tightly together.
Molly German was born in 1998 and raised in Massachusetts. She received her BFA from Boston University in 2021 with a major in painting and minors in art history and psychology. In November 2020, Molly was a featured artist at the SloaneArt Virtual Exhibition. Her work was selected by Beverly Brown, the wife of the former president of Boston University.
Recent artworks by Molly are inspired by mundane moments of life. Molly's aim is to slow down and observe what would normally be a disposable material or scenery, and then transform it into a remarkable image.
