Pikes Peak Railway Mountainside View

This expansive mountain view was captured during the descent on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway after an unforgettable morning at the summit of Pikes Peak near Manitou Springs, Colorado. The winding railway track hugs the rugged mountainside, offering passengers breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.

Below, a peaceful alpine lake and dense evergreen forest provide a great contrast to the rocky terrain, while patches of sunlight and drifting clouds add depth to the landscape. Although a light haze softened the distant horizon on the morning of our visit, it only added to the atmosphere and beauty of the scene.

On exceptionally clear days, visitors from the summit of Pikes Peak can see portions of five US states, making it one of Colorado's most celebrated mountain destinations. I captured this landscape to showcase the dramatic elevation changes, the historic railway, and the remarkable scenery that makes the journey as memorable as the destination itself.
