Piece description from the artist

The Palmolive Building | The Playboy Building | The Lindbergh Beacon

Completed in 1929 as the headquarters to Colgate-Palmolive. Served as the HQ to Playboy Enterprises from 1965-1989. In 2001, it was converted into luxury condominiums. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the world.

The view is looking down on the top of the Lindbergh Beacon, which used to rotate 360 degrees until the area around it grew and the neighbors complained. It now rotates back and forth across Lake Michigan after it's complete restoration in 2001. The top 3 floors served as the penthouse offices for Hugh Hefner and the top Playboy executives along with a residence and eventually served as the 3-storey penthouse for Vince Vaughn, temporarily shared with Jennifer Aniston during their relationship.

At the head of the Gold Coast, the street level retail includes Louis Vuitton, Alice+Olivia, David Yurman, and was the home of the now defunct Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa.

About Ashland Thomas

Chicago, IL

Ashland grew up in Southeast Virginia surrounded by lush rural landscapes, great protected swamp lands, national & state parks, the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore, the breathtaking Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Mountains, and the inlets & oceans of Virginia & North Carolina.

It was this constant variation in natural beauty that first drew his eye to the camera; that, and the constant joy of capturing life's candid moments on film. Although no particular subject is banned from the lens of Ashland's camera, it is landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, and nature that truly captures his heart.

"There's always more to see, more to learn, more to be wowed about-I just hope you enjoy what I see in the world."

A constant staple on the likes of Instagram, Flickr, and Facebook, Ashland currently resides in Chicago, Illinois, and looks forward to many more years of development, collaboration, creativity, world travel, and art.
