Piece description from the artist

This image is no doubt a riff on some of Ansel Adams' most iconic aspen tree photographs. If you are a contemporary photographer, the influence of the classicists is a given, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. This composition served to pay homage to Adams himself, as well as remark upon my own expressions of exploration in the wilderness. There are some human concepts at play here… solitude, resilience, transition… Yet the scene spoke to me primarily because of the simple graphic potential. The white bark of the aspen against the darker forest beyond created a psychologically pleasing line and shape. Sometimes, the form is the primary message. Beauty for beauty's sake.
