I painted this en plein air on Shodoshima island in Kagawa, Japan. It was a clear sunny day and I was able to paint comfortably with a lot of quick brushstrokes. It can be a challenge to paint outside as the sunshine can dry the layers of paint, but being forced to work fast takes out the guesswork.
