Piece description from the artist
If I have a consistent series I come back to it is definitely night-time city scenes. I love the dynamic lighting situations and the somewhat Noir overtones that I've always enjoyed from painters like Edward Hopper.
Josh considers himself more of a Painter than an Artist. With his roots in learning to draw from life he continues to paint and draw representationally. His priorities and intent comes from a love of materials and to find a beautiful way to represent what he sees. Mood and contemplation or narrative can be a part of the work but often it is simply a desire enjoy painting and show a way to see something.
He currently divides his time between St. Louis and rural Central Missouri to paint in the studio on personal work, commissioned pieces or commercial art projects. Current paintings are done in either oil or watercolor. Josh earned Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from Rhode Island School of Design and Indiana University respectively.
