I often like to take photos of a certain scene when something strikes me, then take it back to the studio to see what I can pull from it. This was right after a rain had gone through when I was meeting friends for Indian food in Chicago. Devon is the main street where there are lots of Indian restaurants and grocers.
My goal was to try and describe the particular look of a rain just having passed through and hopefully with it the mood of the rain.
Josh considers himself more of a Painter than an Artist. With his roots in learning to draw from life he continues to paint and draw representationally. His priorities and intent comes from a love of materials and to find a beautiful way to represent what he sees. Mood and contemplation or narrative can be a part of the work but often it is simply a desire enjoy painting and show a way to see something.
He currently divides his time between St. Louis and rural Central Missouri to paint in the studio on personal work, commissioned pieces or commercial art projects. Current paintings are done in either oil or watercolor. Josh earned Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from Rhode Island School of Design and Indiana University respectively.
