A bone-chilling view from the rim of Meteor Crater in Winslow, Arizona, reveals the immense impact site stretching across the high desert beneath a sky filled with drifting clouds. Part of one of the overlooks can be seen along the rim, offering a sense of scale against the vast crater below.
Also known as Barringer Crater, this remarkable landmark was created by a powerful meteorite impact that dramatically reshaped the landscape. Measuring about 3,900 feet across and nearly 560 feet deep, the crater is surrounded by a raised rim approximately 148 feet above the surrounding plains.
Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1967, it is recognized as the best-preserved meteorite impact crater on Earth. Located along historic Route 66, it offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient history and the immense forces that shaped this remarkable landscape.
