Maroon Bells

Piece description from the artist

The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about a third of a mile. The mountain is on the border between Pitkin County and Gunnison County, Colorado, United States, about 12 miles southwest of Aspen. Both peaks are counted as fourteeners. Maroon Peak, at 14,156 feet, is the 27th highest peak in Colorado; North Maroon Peak, at 14,014 feet, is the 50th highest. The view of the Maroon Bells to the southwest from the Maroon Creek valley is one of the most famous scenes in Colorado, and is reputed to be the "most-photographed spot in Colorado" and one of Colorado's premier scenic overlooks. The peaks are located in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness of White River National Forest

About Chad Weisser

Manhattan , NY

Chad Weisser takes photographs to define his experiences, to encapsulate moments and share the earth's most extraordinary places. Naturally, Two of his great passions in life are travel and photography; Chad believes that traveling and gaining exposure to other cultures and places can broadens one's view of the world and photography provides him with a way to explore and share each experience..

Chad considers the art of photography to be a subtractive process where he must distill reality into a personal vision. With this is mind, he often uses the tools of modern photography to try to capture the emotions he experienced the moment he tripped the camera's shutter. Chad also believes that the most important goal of a photograph-as in all of art-is to evoke an emotional response. While many of his experiences in nature do this for him, selecting the places and moments to make a photograph that conveys those emotions is far more difficult. To this end, Chad's processes involve meticulous attention to detail in his field technique, along with work in a digital darkroom to fine-tune and optimize contrasts, colors, tonalities, and luminosity.

Chad currently lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
