Mariner

mariner

Piece description from the artist

One of the great pleasures in making an abstract painting is going through the process adding and subtracting elements and making discoveries that cannot be predicted. I started to explore the grid as a simple construct and how it became the impetus for the painting not knowing the how and why but like a musician improvising within a certain key what could I glean. The painting started to suggest the title to me and “Mariner” seemed perfect reflecting the sea, erosion aging and wear and tear on a vessel or any surface subjected to the elements and time.
