Madonna of Valladolid, Mexico
Piece description from the artist
This photo montage synthesizes the magic of Mexico for me. The central Madonna captivated me in an old monastery in the colonial city of Valladolid. She was a late 19th century doll enshrined like a Michaelangelo statue in the church. I surrounded her with images from Chichen Itza, and some wonderful Ken dolls playing rock 'n roll from a carnival in Bacalar. The skulls from Chichen's ancient religion, combined with images of the Madonna and our contemporary music idols created a complete picture of all that one can call sacred in my own version of a mandala.
