In the heart of Rattlesnake Lake's dry season, nature unveils a striking tableau of petrified Red Cedars and Douglas Firs—like silent witnesses to epochs long past. As the water recedes, a hauntingly beautiful sight emerges—a graveyard of what was once an ancient old-growth forest, hidden beneath the lake's tranquil surface.
This evocative image bears the name 'Lovely Lamented,' a title that mirrors the complex emotions stirred within me each time I gaze upon this extraordinary landscape. While it captivates the eye with its striking beauty, it also serves as a poignant reminder of our sometimes careless stewardship of one of our most precious resources.
