Looking east dawn

Looking East, Dawn

Piece description from the artist

Perched on my corner balcony high above the New York City streets, I drew , over a period of 4 years, what I saw when I awoke each morning and often also at night, . I could look North-looking up Third Avenue, East-toward the East River, and Northwest, towards the Empire State Building. The same three views always looked different, depending on the time of year, the hour, and the weather. These sketchbooks, with work done in watercolor, pen and ink, and pastel, became the basis for these larger Balcony Series studio paintings :

Looking East, Dawn represents the magical hour objects emerge from the enveloping darkness of the night.
