Piece description from the artist
This photo was taken from up top Mount Major in the New Hampshire Lakes Region over looking Winnipesaukee. I stayed as long as I could as the sun was setting taking photos before heading down the trail. I knew it would take about an hour to get back to the parking lot. As I was hiking back it suddenly got dark and I had to stay focused so that I wouldn't trip over any of the roots or rocks on the trail. But what I was really worried about was encountering a bear out for an evening snack! Luckily I made it back to the car all in one piece.
I'm a fine art photographer and filmmaker living in the Boston area. I grew up here in Massachusetts always playing outside as a young child. Nature and the beauty of New England's landscapes continues to be the inspiration for my work. I was formally trained in painting and photography at Skidmore College graduating with a Bachelors Degree as a Fine Arts major in 2008. My very first photography class was through my Paris abroad program with Skidmore. I first learned how to take photos with a manual film camera. We developed and printed our own photos in the darkroom. I believe starting out this way helped me to be a better photographer. Now I've gone digital but I still always shoot in manual mode so that I have the most control possible over how my photographs come out.
