King Of The Badlands

That Bison hairdo belongs on a concert stage! This American Buffalo looked like he borrowed Elvis Presley's signature hairstyle before heading out to graze across the prairie at Badlands National Park in South Dakota. With his head lowered into the short grass, his thick, windswept mane steals the show, while his large horns and powerful shoulders remind you just how impressive these animals are. Every time I see this photo, I can't help but smile and laugh.

I love capturing close-up wildlife portraits because they reveal details that are easy to miss from a distance. The texture of his shaggy coat, the curve of his horns, and that unforgettable "Elvis" hairdo all come together to create a portrait full of character and personality.

The American bison is the largest land mammal in North America, with mature bulls weighing up to 2,000 pounds and capable of running up to 35 miles per hour. Once nearly driven to extinction, bison have made a remarkable comeback thanks to conservation efforts and can now be seen roaming protected landscapes like Badlands National Park. This charismatic bull proved that sometimes nature has a sense of humor too.
