The ASB Bridge, also known as the North Kansas City Bridge and LRC Bridge, is a historic vertical-lift bridge with a fascinating past. It was one of only two bridges of its kind in the United States where automobile traffic traveled on the upper level while trains used the lower level. Nine stone masonry piers were constructed in 1890, but funding delays postponed the rest of the project until construction finally began in 1909. The bridge opened in 1911.

When the Heart of America Bridge opened in 1987, the upper roadway level of the ASB Bridge was removed, and the remaining structure was transferred to Burlington Northern Railroad in 1988–1989. In 1996, the surviving portion of the historic double-decker bridge was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
