Piece description from the artist
An expansive summer afternoon black and white view of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, captured from Penn Valley Park beside the iconic Scout statue. The city skyline can be seen in the distance with skyscrapers, a Ferris wheel, a small pond, and Interstate 35 creating layers throughout the urban landscape. Puffy white clouds drift across the sky, adding beautiful contrast to the city scene. You can even see a bird flying in the sky.
The Scout is a famous 12 foot tall bronze statue of a Native American scout on horseback, created by Cyrus E. Dallin. Originally displayed at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, the statue was later brought to Kansas City and dedicated in 1921. It has become one of the city's most recognizable landmarks and offers a memorable viewpoint overlooking downtown.
I love how this photograph combines Kansas City history, the iconic statue, and the modern city skyline all in one view.
