Kanarra Falls And The Canyon Staircase Grayscale

A stunning vertical black and white photograph of the beautiful Kanarra Falls cascading beside the iconic metal staircase in Spring Creek Canyon near Kanarraville, Utah. Using a long exposure, I highlighted the silky movement of the cold, spring-fed water as it flows between the glowing sandstone walls of this stunning slot canyon.

Visiting in the spring made the adventure even more memorable. My husband and I hiked the four-mile round trip through water that was only about 36°F, and I have to admit, I was pretty proud that we made it! Much of the trail follows the creek itself, so there isn't much opportunity to avoid getting your feet wet. Even during the summer, the water remains refreshingly cold.

The hike includes stream crossings, large boulders to climb over, and narrow canyon passages that make reaching the falls feel like an accomplishment. Over the years, the staircase beside the waterfall has been rebuilt and updated, but it remains one of the most recognizable features of Kanarra Falls and one of southern Utah's most rewarding hiking destinations.
