In the wind

In the Wind

Piece description from the artist

This is a newer piece exploring the materials in the space and obscuring some of the imagery to create a more interesting picture. Starting spontaneously, it evolved using the gesso, paint and different papers & ribbon on the surface. The same paper with holes as seen on the surface was used to created the the stencil look on the bottom and flying through the mid part of the painting

About Joyce Pommer

New York, NY

Joyce Pommer was born in Quincy, Massachusetts and studied at The Academy of Art in San Francisco, The Art Institute of Boston and the Art Students League in New York City. She has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in New York and across the country and her work is in numerous private collections.

Pommer’s striking abstract mixed media paintings originate from a spontaneous process using acrylic, gesso, different papers, fabrics and materials collaged onto surfaces of canvas, metal or wood to create depth and movement in the space.

Joyce lives and works in New York City and she is a new member of "ArtTable":http://www.arttable.org/index.cfm?ccache=1&CFID=31896492&CFTOKEN=56ab78ef319c9cf6-C945FDEE-0D8F-736E-1A4406D0E294C61E&jsessionid=8430c59bcd994de97cd66e5e2e2207d72693.

Inspired by the early "Abstract Expressionists":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_expressionism, Pommer is seeking the emotion and spirit of the painting by way of the unconscious and spiritual. A new association with the "Japanese floating":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukiyo-e master painters is assisting her in the way the imagery moves or floats through the space and relates to one another.
