Piece description from the artist
The Virginia countryside is known for its inherent beauty. Whether it is the meandering shadows of its Blue Ridge mountains, the vibrant colours in the fall, or the cool lavenders of the winter snows, the winter months hold a dramatic contrast which certainly adds to its historical allure.
In his paintings, Luis Lozano attempts to create an air of realism by sculpting the light that fills the empty space around an object. He believes that light is essential to creating an illusion in painting, taking inspiration from artists like "Johannes Vermeer" and "John Singer Sargent".
Luis studied at the La Jolla Academy of Advertising and Design in La Jolla, California. His work in the advertising and design has given him experience with storyboards, thumb sketches, layout, design, and composition, while also providing insight about the relationship between artist and audience.
Luis currently lives in Monroe, Virginia.
