Piece description from the artist
Utilizing soft, graceful lines against a silhouette of hazy lake mist, 'La Blanca' reflects a lazy afternoon of rest. Elegantly suspended in a symmetry of tubes and wood, this nautical portrait exudes the subtle elegance that only a boat enthusiast can appreciate.
In his paintings, Luis Lozano attempts to create an air of realism by sculpting the light that fills the empty space around an object. He believes that light is essential to creating an illusion in painting, taking inspiration from artists like "Johannes Vermeer":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Vermeer, "Caravaggio":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravaggio, and "John Singer Sargent":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Singer_Sargent.
Luis studied at the La Jolla Academy of Advertising and Design in La Jolla, California. His work in the advertising and design has given him experience with storyboards, thumb sketches, layout, design, and composition, while also providing insight about the relationship between artist and audience.
Luis currently maintains a studio practice and gallery space in Lynchburg, Virginia.
