The magic of the Fanal forest ist best experienced on a dark and foggy day. When I visited Madeira in November, I was expecting such conditions nearly every day as they are quite common for Fanal during that time. But to my surprise, while the other mountains on the island were mostly shrouded in clouds, Fanal remained sunny nearly every day. In the end it took me six tries to get the right conditions. But it was worth it returning again and again, because, as you can see in the photo, this atmosphere is just something else.
Michael Breitung is an experienced landscape photographer from Germany, who loves to travel. His travels have taken him all across the world and he had the chance to visit and photograph many wonderful places. He's been fortunate enough to visit countries in Europe, in North and South America, in Oceania, in Asia and in Africa. It's always something special for him to arrive in a new country and to start exploring.
