Eruption 2

Eruption

Piece description from the artist

The movement of the earth, the power of nature? Fissures and eruptions – a landscape reforming. This expressive, kinetic painting captures the elemental forces of nature, the heat and power of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It all comes together with a suggestion of the geology of a landscape, with charcoal mark making creating fault lines in the rock strata.

This is an abstract print from an original painting in acrylic and gouache on paper. It is always about attempting to capture a feeling or moment in time through abstract motifs.

About Philip Cheeseman

Liverpool, United Kingdom

Painting in his home town of Liverpool, UK, Phil has been developing his abstract works on paper and canvas, influenced primarily by color-field art, marked by airy compositions that celebrate the joys of pure color.

In these works, the entire space of the picture is conceived as a "field" that appears to spread beyond the edges of the surface, and three-dimensional illusionism is completely jettisoned.

In many of the paintings the process investigates how areas of color battle with the edges of the composition.

With a background in the digital graphic arts and video production this is a new and exciting direction that is being explored using watercolor, gouache, and acrylic on paper and canvas.

Phil's preoccupations include the lingering atmosphere of nature, flowers, aerial landscapes – and especially memories of times and places traveled.
