Devils Tower Above The Cliff

This unique vertical photograph shows Devils Tower above a red rock cliff in northeastern Wyoming. I photographed the scene from below, where the warm morning sunlight illuminated the iconic monolith while nearby trees and the foreground remained in soft shade beneath a partly cloudy sky. I especially liked how the sunlight caught sections of the cliff behind the evergreens, adding depth and contrast to the landscape. The rugged rock face and scattered pine trees naturally frame the towering formation, drawing your eye upward to one of America's most recognizable landmarks. Standing here offered a different perspective than the traditional overlook, emphasizing both the height of the tower and the dramatic terrain that surrounds it. Located within Devils Tower National Monument, the formation is approximately 867 feet above its base and is famous for its cool vertical columns. Established in 1906 as America's first national monument, it holds deep cultural significance for many Native American tribes and has become an internationally recognized landmark, appearing in films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind. If you look closely, you can see some climbers too.
