Desert Storm At Monument Valley Grayscale

Piece description from the artist

I captured this black and white photograph of a rare and unforgettable moment as sleet, rain, and hail swept across Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in Arizona, falling softly around Merrick Butte and the iconic West Mitten Butte. In the distance, additional formations, Big Chief, King on His Throne, Castle, and Brigham’s Tomb, fade into the stormy haze.

The spring storm moved in rapidly, shifting from hail to sleet and even brief snowfall, an incredibly unusual sight in the desert. A soft, mystical veil settled over the landscape, muting the warm desert tones and creating an almost otherworldly mood. Experiencing this fleeting weather event within Navajo Tribal Park felt truly special, and I was grateful to witness and photograph such a rare moment in one of the Southwest’s most iconic landscapes.
