Piece description from the artist
A photo focused on the Crazy Horse Memorial in the background with a tower binocular viewer slightly blurred in the foreground. This classic coin-operated viewer looks to be an older original one A partly cloudy blue sky completes this vertical photograph I captured in May of 2026. Located in the Black Hills Of South Dakota, this is near Custer with the carving work being done on Thunderhead Mountain. Crazy Horse was a respected Oglala Lakota war leader remembered for his courage, leadership, and determination to protect the traditional way of life of his people. Work on the memorial began back in 1948 under sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and continues today, honoring Crazy Horse's legacy while remaining one of the areas most recognizable landmarks. Thanks to donations, they are now able to work on completing the mountain carving.
